Un giorno, per strada, mi imbatto in una locandina a dir poco inconsueta: su sfondo blu sogno circondata da una serie di personaggi live dei film Disney più famosi campeggia la scritta Disneyland Paris Audition! 

Leggo sotto: Cerchiamo persone entusiaste e piene di energia, per animare i celebri personaggi Disney. Se sei un ballerino di buon livello potrai partecipare alle sfilate  e alle parate Disney! 

Inoltre siamo alla ricerca di persone somiglianti ai nostri famosi principi e principesse Disney per incontri quotidiani con i visitatori. 

É richiesto un buon livello di danza oltre ai criteri fisici di somiglianza.

Quando mi sono trasferita a Roma non é stato di certo per entrare nel mondo del cinema e tanto meno per darmi alla giungla delle audizioni. Ma dopo una rapida occhiata alla data, il 4 ottobre 2016 alle ore 10:00 - sono libera -  e alla sede, IALS Via Cesare Fracassini n.60 Roma - vicino a casa - ho deciso che almeno per curiosità potevo andare a vedere di cosa si trattava. 

Al mio ingresso nella sala la prima impressione é di quella di una mamma: potrebbero essere tutti miei figli. É richiesto aver compiuto 18 anni, ma la gran parte dei candidati la supera di poco. L’aspetto, invece, é di tutti i tipi. Si va dai ballerini professionali a quelli dilettanti. Chiacchierando nell’attesa con gli aspiranti scopro che non vengono solo da Roma ma più di qualcuno si é fatto qualche ora di treno per essere qui. In fondo alla sala i responsabili del recruting Disneyland Paris e un coreografo delle parate (di origine italiana) ritirano le candidature compilate a cui aggiungono la tua statura misurata sul posto (quindi nessuna possibilità di dichiararsi più alta, ma, d’altronde, la locandina indicava tutti i tipi di statura sono ammessi). Leggo, sempre sulla locandina, 100 ruoli femminili e maschili disponibili e faccio 2 conti: qui siamo poco più di un centinaio, vuol dire quasi tutti? Salvo poi scoprire che le audizioni si svolgono in tutta Europa, e la statistica  diventa un’opinione.

Continuo a leggere di contratti indeterminati per un certo tipo di profilo e contratti a tempo determinato tra metà ottobre 2016 e marzo 2017 per una durata minima di 4 mesi. La portavoce Disneyland, nel discorso iniziale, spiega a tutti che il salario mensile lordo varia da 1.500 a 1.700 Euro in base ai ruoli. La possibilità di alloggio di cui si legge é a carico dei dipendenti (ma a un costo contenuto). Si conclude con i candidati/e dovranno saper parlare inglese o francese. In effetti tutto il discorso in cui ci vengono spiegati i dettagli di cui sopra e qualche informazione sul lavoro viene fatto in inglese nella sala principale e in francese in un’altra stanza. A quanto pare interpretare un personaggio non sembra una passeggiata: turni di ore con addosso un costume, spesso totale, in qualsiasi condizione di temperatura, un rapido break e si ritorna a lavoro. Non se la passano tanto meglio i principi e le principesse che devono sorridere tutto il giorno e salutare in continuazione ma, attenzione, solo con la mano. A quanto pare é tassativamente vietato aprire bocca. La motivazione ufficiale é che a Disneyland Paris arriva gente da tutto il mondo e non tutti potrebbero interagire con i loro personaggi preferiti.

Il coreografo ci istruisce affinché possiamo interpretare alcuni caratteristi (un cowboy, un pirata, un minatore e un saluto regale). Dopo una prima selezione in cui restano solo un terzo dei candidati, il pomeriggio viene dedicato ai colloqui individuali in cui si verifica l’effettiva padronanza della lingua straniera e si ascoltano le motivazioni che spingono a voler entrare a far parte della famiglia  dei parchi Disney. Se aspiri a interpretare un personaggio specifico é il momento della verità: a chi assomigli? A Merida (Brave - Principessa ribelle) per la chioma rossa? A Jasmine (Alladin) perché hai studiato danza del ventre? Oppure sei una delle sorelle di Frozen, Elsa o Anna?

La selezione potrebbe non essere andata a vostro favore, ma la portavoce Disneyland nel suo discorso ci tiene a precisare che non essere presi questa volta non significa non andare mai bene per Disneyland Paris e invita a non rinunciare. Una rapida occhiata al web e capisco perché: a quanto pare non si tratta di un caso eccezionale ma di una routine perché tutti gli anni ci sono queste audizioni, anche più di una volta all’anno. La prossima a Roma sarà il 9 marzo 2017.

Forse non sarà come lavorare in miniera ma se serve in continuazione reclutare nuovo personale non deve essere il lavoro più facile del mondo...

I read below: We are looking for enthusiastic and highly energetic people to perform as our famous characters and to partecipate in our wonderful parades and cavalcades!

We also identify performers who resemble the classic Disney female and male lookalikes for a variety of greetings and parades! All look-alike performers must have a basic dance level and distinguishing characteristic to portray these animated characters.

When I moved to Rome it is certainly not to enter in the world of cinema and even less to audition jungle. But after a quick look at the date, October 4, 2016 at 10 am - I'm free - and the place, IALS Via Cesare Fracassini 60 Rome - close to home - I decided that at least out of curiosity I could go and see what it was.

When I enter the room, the first impression is that of a mother: could all my children. It is required minimum of 18 years old, but most of the candidates exceeds didn’t. The appearance, however, is of all kinds. They range from professional dancers to amateurs. Talk waiting for aspiring discover who come not only from Rome but more than anyone has here by train. Just down the recruting those responsible for the Disneyland Paris area and a choreographer of parades (of Italian origin) withdraw applications compiled to which add your height measured during the audition (so no chance of higher declare, but, all heights are welcome). I read, always on the poster, 100 female and male roles available: here we are just over a hundred, it means almost everyone? Only to discover that the hearings are held throughout Europe, and the statistics become an opinion.

I keep reading of open ended contracts for a certain type of profile and temporary contracts between mid October 2016 and March 2017 for a minimum duration of 4 months. The spokesperson for Disneyland, in the opening speech, explaining to everyone that the gross monthly salary ranges from 1,500 to 1,700 euro based on roles. The housing possibilities we read is paid by the employees (but at a reasonable cost). It ends with the candidates must speak English or French. In fact the whole speech which explains us the details above and some information on the work is done in English in the main hall and French in another room. Apparently play a character doesn’t simply: hour shifts wearing a costume, often total, at any temperature condition, a quick break and return to work. Do not fare much better princes and princesses who must smile all day long and healthy all the time, but be careful, only your hand. It is absolutely forbidden to open his mouth. The official reason is that the visitors of Disneyland Paris come from all over the world and not everyone could interact with their favorite characters.

The choreographer instructs us so that we can interpret some characteristics (a cowboy, a pirate, a miner and a royal salute). After a first selection in which only one-third of the candidates, the afternoon is for to individual interviews that are experiencing the actual mastery of a foreign language and you listen to the motivations for wanting to join the family of the Disney parks. If you aspire to play a specific character it is the moment of truth: who you look like? Merida (Brave) for the red hair? Jasmine (Aladdin) because you studied belly dancing? Or are you one of the Frozen Sisters, Elsa and Anna?

The selection may not be gone in your favor, but the spokesman Disneyland in his speech at pains to point out that not be taken this time does not mean never go well for Disneyland Paris and invites us not to give up. A quick look at the website and I understand why: apparently this is not an exceptional case but a routine because every year there are these hearings, even more than once a year. The next will be in Rome March 9, 2017.

It may not be like working in the mines but if used continuously recruit new staff may not be the easiest job in the world...
